American Girl Gala gown for doll and girl

My granddaughter asked for Felicia, a historic American Girl doll for Christmas and her gala gown.  I decided to copy the gown for Keely.  It was quite a challenging project, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  I hope to get photos of her wearing it soon.  Here are some pics.

Machine embroidery!

I bought a used Brother Duetta and am having so much fun with it.  Now I have to figure out what I can do with my embroidery!  Here are some things I have done so far.  It has taken me awhile to load these so they show right side up!

More costumes

I made a pinbib for a customer in Australia.

It was fun to research what that was and make it to her precise measurements.  She was kind enough to send me a pic wearing it.

It was a Civil War era (well maybe not in Australia) pin bib.

Here is one Denise and I made for an 18 month old being dressed as Nacho Libre for Halloween.

I hope we get some pics from this one!

And we got them!!

I made Riley a Superman cape but he won't wear it so Keely did at least for a photo.

viking costumes

I got hired through Etsy Alchemy to create costumes of characters in the movie How to Train your Dragon.  It was a lot of fun but a real grind to meet the deadline for Halloween.  My dear friend Denise pitched in and we got them done.  I am posting photos but they would be much better on real bodies.  I hope to get photos later

Here are Astrid, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut

Casserole carrier

I've been meaning to make one of these since my friend Liz showed me hers at book club years ago.  Finally I downloaded some web directions.  Whoa - they were missing information and it turned out to be harder than it needed to be.  But I'm happy with it!  It is made with reversible quilted fabric and I also put a pocket on it.  Here it closed, above.  Open here:

and here it is how it will be carrying a cassserole.  My camera is giving me trouble so these are too close.

postcard for nephew Westin

Westin has sent me two postcards lately, one a cool hand sketched skeleton one.  So I did this one for his band.

This is suposed to be Westin playing his drums in the band The Thermals.  Here's the other side:

Keely as Anne of Greene Gables

We had a great weekend with the kids and I got to see Keely in her Anne of Green Gables outfit.  It fits great.

Anne of Green Gables outfit

And here is the finished dress with the pinafore - and the bow buttons.  To go with this outfit, I am including spats (to make high button boots), an amethyst brooch, a hat, the set of books, a carpet bag, and a doll!  Can't wait for her to open it all.

Woo Hoo!  Finished the 3 bonnets.  They were puzzling but turned out great.

Anne of Green Gables outfit

Finally finished the dress to go with the pinafore.

I hope it isn't too long1  I have such a hard time with buttonholes.  I found out I could order an attachement for my machine and did that.  the Anne outfit is for Keely's 8th birthday.  Also I ordered her a gondolier hat, green ribbon to replace the red, an amethyst brooch, and spats to wear with black shoes.  I'll give her a carpet bag too!  The entire set of books is part of the gift and will be wrapped tonight.

Finally I finished Keely's pinafore for her Anne of Green Gables outfit (a surprise birthday gift).  Now am making the dress to go under it (backwards, as usual).  I ordered the skimmer hat to be sent to her.

May 2, 2010

I made grandson Riley a toucan hood.  It was a lot harder than I thought but I think it turned out well.  My sewing machine does not like sewing on foam!  I did get pics.  Can't wait to see it on him tomorrow.

I made Keely an entire Little House on the Prairie costume and took it to her last week.  Maybe I can get a photo of her in it.

I got photos of both kids in it - looks much cuter on1  I hope they enjoy it.

bluebird on fence popup

I have been thinking of doing popups a long time but I just haven't come up with a good idea.  Finally I realized I could start by copying ones that I see, or at least using them as an idea.  Here's my first one, a birthday card for my friend DL.

Valentines - Keely's

Here is a small Valentine for Keely - she likes hibiscus print.  This is paper and lace.  Inside is a pop-out heart with a message behind.
